The Williston Herald, a 5-day-a-week morning paper at the heart of the North Dakota Oil Patch, is seeking an energetic reporter to cover college, prep and rec sports, as well as the outdoors scene.
Sports in the Williston area feature two in-town high schools with a number of rural schools in the vicinity, as well as ACHA power Williston State College.
The heart of the sporting life in Williston, however, is its outdoor scene. Pheasant hunting, ice fishing, curling, dirt track racing and the fast, unique and furious paddlefish season, are just a few of the year-round events that keep the sports scene here humming.
We’re looking for a reporter who can go beyond the gamer and tell the stories of victory, defeat, and competition that turn people into sports fans.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience. Strong writing and photography skills are a must, as is a commitment to community journalism. Digital and multimedia experience is highly desirable, as is layout experience.
Send a resume and cover letter to Jamie Kelly, managing editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
