Wick Communications aquires Anchorage Publishing
Anchorage Publishing, which owns The Anchorage Press and several other Alaska publications, has sold its newspaper assets to Wick Communications.
Wick Communications is an Arizona-based, family-owned company with 32 newspapers located around the United States. Their holdings include the Tucson Weekly, an alternative newspaper not unlike the Press, and, The Frontiersman in Alaska, a thrice-weekly newspaper that serves Mat-Su Valley.
The lynchpin of the sale was the installation of a modern printing press for producing The Frontiersman. This created a perfect synergy for the two companies to cooperate. The Anchorage Press now gains the resources of a larger company paving the way for The Press to become larger and higher quality publication.
Anchorage Press publisher Nick Coltman and editor Robert Meyerowitz will continue in their current roles. These two key managers said they have agreed to stay because Wick Communications wants them to continue producing the quality publications they are known for.
"We anticipate very few changes" at The Press, said Wick CEO John Mathew.
Wick believes decision making authority rests solidly with the publisher whose responsibility is to craft a top notch publication, Mathew said.
