St. Tammany News wins Louisiana Press Association awards

St. Tammany News wins awards at Louisiana Press Association convention.

The sports department for the St. Tammany News won big at the 131st annual convention of the Louisiana Press Association held this weekend in Marksville, La.

The newspaper won first place in Division 5 for Best Sports Coverage and Best Sports Photo by sports reporter Mike Pervel. The sports department also won third place in Division 5 in Best Special Section for its 2010 High School Football Preview section.

The newspaper also won first place for Community Service to Readers with its Christmas Food Drive to replenish supplies at the parish’s two food banks.

The St. Tammany News Editorial Department won second place in their division for General Excellence, and Best News Coverage. The paper placed third for Best Front Page, Best News/Feature Photo, amd Best Web Project. The newsroom also got an Honorable Mention for the Best Feature Story.

On the advertising side, the graphics and advertising staff won second and third place for In-Paper Promotion. They also won second place for Multiple Advertiser Page and Best Retailer Ad. The St. Tammany News Advertising Department also got third place in the Staff-Generated Color Ad, Best Services Ad-Non Retail and Best Non-Traditional Use of Space Ad.
