Kathleen Leinen, rural Hankinson, N.D., has been named as the managing editor of the Daily News of Wahpeton/Breckenridge.

Leinen has been the managing editor of the Daily News’s sister newspaper, the News-Monitor in Hankinson, for the past nine years.

"The News-Monitor has a solid reputation throughout the state as being one of the top weeklies in North Dakota," Leinen said. "I've been working for Wick Communications for almost 20 years in Hankinson and am pleased to bring those years of experience to the helm of the Daily News."

“We are pleased to have Kathy (Leinen) as the managing editor for the Daily News," said Publisher Ken Harty. "She knows the area well and brings a lot of experience into the newsroom. I know she will do a great job.”

Leinen will oversee the newsroom in both Wahpeton and Hankinson.

She and her husband, Don Leinen Jr., have two daughters, Noel, 12, and Autumn, 11. The girls will be in seventh and sixth grades this upcoming school season in Hankinson. "I love working for newspapers, especially the wonderful community newspapers we have in Wahpeton and Breckenridge and the surrounding area," Leinen said. "The newsroom in the Daily News is filled with incredibly talented writers. Together, we will work even harder to cover our local events."
