Kevin Duke

Kevin Duke has been named sports editor of the Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun.

Duke comes to Green Valley with 20 years experience as a sportswriter, photographer and editor.

After nearly 10 years in the golf business, Duke returned to college where he earned his B.A. in mass communications from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1995. While in school, he was sports editor of his college newspaper for three years, had his own cable sports show, and was the voice of Midwestern State Indian basketball.

After graduation, Duke moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he worked for KQLL Sports Talk radio for three years before becoming regional and sports editor for Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers.

He most recently worked for the Durant Daily Democrat in Durant, Okla., and the Sangre De Christo Chronicle in Angel Fire, N.M.

As a freelance writer, Duke has written for more than 30 publications, including newspapers, specialty publications and local, regional, statewide and national magazines.

"I feel privileged and honored to be the new sports editor at the Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun," said Duke, who is an avid golfer. "See you all on the golf course."

Duke takes over from Nick Prevenas, who left the paper in July after five years as sports editor. Prevenas still writes a weekly sports column for the Green Valley News.
