Five days a week The Daily Journal publishes a community-oriented newspaper which focuses on the people of Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. Its role is to chronicle the community it serves through unbiased reporting, informative advertising, and interesting features, photographs and commentary. Where possible it seeks to accentuate the positives, but never ignores the negatives.
The Daily Journal has been part of the Fergus Falls community for nearly 125 years. It was founded in 1873 by A. J. Underwood, whose family published the newspaper until the mid-1980’s when it was purchased by Thomson Newspapers. In December 1992 it was sold to Boone Newspapers Incorporated who operated it until July, 2019 when is was purchased by Wick Communications, a family-owned community media company with newspapers, websites, magazines and specialty publications in 10 states. The home office is in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Wick publishes newspapers in Arizona, Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington.
