Gustav : New Iberia update, Wednesday

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, The Daily Iberian has regular power, the air conditioners are on and employees are working to restore the office to normalcy with the intent that we will publish a paper Thursday, going to press at 10 a.m.

While there are still announcements that government officials are restricting access to the parish, in practice there is no restriction though there is a curfew starting at 8 p.m. Power was on to a good part of New Iberia Tuesday night and the areas getting power Wednesday was growing steadily. It clearly will be some time before all rural areas have power, but basic services are coming back fast.

We need employees back at work and urge them to make their way back, though of course being safe. We need to get a paper out so we can start producing revenue, plus we have local people hungry for news about the storm and the recovery.
