ANCHORAGE, Alaska—Steve Abeln, a long-time newspaper professional, has been named publisher of the Anchorage Press.  Wick Communications, parent company of The Press, announced his appointment today.  Abeln begins work April 30.

Abeln, 49, most recently was general manager for Alaska Newspapers, Inc., based in Anchorage.  He also worked as advertising and marketing director for Morris Communications in Anchorage and as interactive department sales manager for the Anchorage Daily News.
 
“I am excited about joining the Anchorage Press and working with the Press staff,” Abeln said.  “I look forward to meeting our readers and advertisers to find ways to help The Press become even more valuable to the community.”
 
Abeln has been active in various industry and community organizations since moving to Alaska in 1986, including the Resource Development Council, the Alliances, various chambers of commerce and the Knights of Columbus.

Steve has been married to his wife, Julie, for more than 29 years.  They live in the Anchorage area with their daughter, Nicole, a student at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.  Their son, Mike, lives in Delaware and works in Pennsylvania.

In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with family and friends and enjoying Alaska.
