New managing editor has joined the staff of the Williston Herald

Mitzi Moe, publisher of the Williston Herald announced today that a new managing editor has joined the staff of the Williston Herald in North Dakota. Jacob Brooks, 34, arrived to Williston on April 14 and began working at the Herald on April 15.

Moe said she is excited to have someone of Brooks caliber on her staff. "The strength he has shown in community journalism is the reason we chose Jacob, he is going to be a large asset to this newspaper and community."

Brooks was formerly the managing editor of Wick newspaper The Daily News in Bogalusa, La., where he served as the assistant managing editor and managing editor from 2007-2010. Brooks began working for Wick in 2005, when he joined the St. Tammany News in Covington, La., working as a sports and news reporter. Brooks also worked for The Kodiak Daily Mirror in Alaska as a sports editor and managing editor, from 2002 - 2005.

Brooks has a bachelor's of arts in journalism from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division from 1993 to 1996, and worked in Alaska's commercial fishing industry in the late 1990s.
