New Iberia Senior News Editor Don Shoopman donates big catch

An avid fisherman and soccer coach for U14 girls and assistant girls soccer coach for New Iberia Senior High School, Senior News Editor Don Shoopman was involved in a recent fishing tournament that is a fundraiser for the Louisiana PepperPlex, a class A facility of soccer and baseball fields that thousands of youth enjoy each year.
Shoopman was the lucky winner of a 14-foot aluminum flat-bottomed boat and trolling motor that was raffled off as part of the fundraiser.
True to Shoopman¹s catch-and-release philosophy, he refused to accept the prize and instead offered it up for auction at the event. Doing so added $1,000 to the kitty for the upkeep of the youth sports facility.
Shoopman¹s dedication to the youth of Iberia is deep.
