Monica Watson, an 18-year Wick employee, today became publisher of the Eastern Arizona Courier, in Safford, and The Copper Era, in Clifton, Arizona.

She fills a vacancy created by the death of Richard Schneider, who died of cancer in March.

Monica has lived in Safford her whole life and knows most everyone in town.  She knows the newspaper business just as thoroughly as she knows her community.

She started at the Courier as a classified advertising clerk, advanced to manager of that department, and then moved to the production department.  After that, oversight of the circulation department was added to her list of duties.  In September 2011, Monica was named advertising manager, a position she will retain in her new role as publisher.   She also will oversee the operations of the Arizona Range News in Willcox, where Ainslee Wittig serves as editor and office manager.
