Wick Communications Editorial Director Clay Lambert was honored to participate in the 2010 Colorado State University Media Festival the week of Sept. 19. Lambert is a 1986 graduate of the university’s journalism program.
Lambert sat on a panel discussing the future of print journalism – “Passion, Publication and Packaging: Turning pages can still be cool.” The panel, moderated by CSU journalism professor Cindy Christen, included SHOT magazine publisher Andrea Sowell, Journey magazine publisher Carmen Ruyle Hardy, and Michelle Crockett, editorial director for Penton Media. The panel was one of about a dozen held at the Lory Student Center on Sept. 24.
Many alumni returned to the school for the four-day event, which also included the announcement of the annual “Cammy” awards – journalism honors named after the school’s mascot. There were more than 100 written and video entries judged by university faculty.
Lambert won one of several “Best in Festival” awards. He entered The Kicker blog, which he writes for Wick Communications, as well as a long-form story outlining one parolee’s odyssey through the California judicial system.
Lambert told students that, while the newspaper industry has contracted in recent years, there are still career opportunities in the field. He emphasized the difference between community papers and big regional dailies and handed out dozens of business cards to those interested in Wick papers.
