The Montrose Daily Press was honored as the photo and design sweepstakes winner at the annual Colorado Press Association Convention, it was announced Saturday at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver.

Last year the Daily Press was the editorial sweepstakes winner, but finished just behind the Craig Daily Press this year.

In all, the Montrose Daily Press won 20 awards in a variety of categories, including eight first place honors. The Class IV contest was judged by journalists and editors from Minnesota. The Daily Press also received a number of awards from the Associated Press (see related story). Attending the meeting from the Daily Press were managing editor Bill Swaim, senior writer Katharhynn Heidelberg, photojournalist Barton Glasser and reporter Robert Allen.
