The Tucson area will have a new newspaper when the Vail Sun debuts on Wednesday, March 14.

The Vail Sun is the newest community newspaper from Wick Communications, which owns most of the community papers south and east of Tucson as well as Inside Tucson Business and the Tucson Weekly.

The Vail Sun will be distributed each Wednesday to approximately 15,000 homes in Vail, Rita Ranch, Corona de Tucson and the Rincon Valley. It will be all local, covering the Vail School District and issues of concern to residents in this burgeoning area of nearly 40,000 southeast of Tucson.

“This is an area not currently served by its own newspaper. We saw a need and a business opportunity,” said Susan Perry, publisher of the newspaper. “We look forward to filling a gap in the Vail area.”

Perry has been with Wick Communications for nine years, most recently as business manager of the San Pedro Valley News-Sun in Benson and the Arizona Range News in Willcox.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” she said. “My kids go the Vail Schools, and I’ve thought for a long time there was a real need for a better way to get news and advertising information to this huge area. I’m pleased that Wick saw the need as well.”
